Imagine if instead of greedily

gobbling up all before them

the dogs in our manger

had shared.

Imagine if instead of indifferently

watching unnecessary deaths

from ivory towers

they cared.

Imagine if instead of callously

abusing the power we gave

to the men in their suits

they led.

Imagine if instead of mindlessly

destroying all in their path

the stampede of cattle

had paused.

Imagine a world we very nearly saw

the glimmer of hope we almost felt

when our voices were heard

when we stood side by side

on the edge of their reason

before we sneezed and

then we coughed

so they woke up

to tie a noose

even tighter

around our

necks.
